The Water Tower Lookout is on Mitchell Terrace in Port Augusta and, as the name suggests, has been created in the old water tower. This water tower was built in 1882 to provide a reserved water supply for the residents of Port Augusta West.
You will need to climb the four flights of steps to reach the viewing area which allows panoramic views of Port Augusta, the Flinders Ranges, Baxter Ranges, and landscape to the north. The steps leading up to the tower are a little rusty but seemed to be safe enough.
The Water Tower Lookout has the great views south along Spencer Gulf and this is a very good place to take photos and get your bearings before exploring the rest of Port Augusta.
