The Visitor Information Centre in Port Augusta is located at the Wadlata Outback Centre in the middle of town. This is very large with plenty of information on the history of the area, the creation of the Flinders Ranges, fossils displays as well as hear Aboriginal Dreamtime stories.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful with plenty of information about the town itself and the surrounding areas. We were heading into the Flinders Ranges and they were happy to provide local knowledge on places to stay and eat. Of course the Information Centre can book your accommodation and tours in Port Augusta and around the region. It is also a booking office for the Pichi Richi Railway for a trip on a diesel or steam train along the old Ghan railway lines towards Quorn. They also have a huge range of souvenirs and locally made products.
The Wadlata Outback Centre and "Tunnel of Time" is a look though time at the creation of the Flinders ranges and the outback which includes Aboriginal Dreaming Stories. This is a very interesting way to hear tales of the early settlers and find out what this land means to the traditional owners. A fee applies to enter the Tunnel of Time and is open 7 days a week - you can obtain a pass out to return later as there is so much to see at this great attraction.
