Wilpena Pound Resort - Flinders Ranges NP

Wilpena Pound Resort is located within the Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia - about 162 kilometres from Port Augusta. This resort has been built in a beautiful bush setting with walking trails that lead up to the lookouts into Wilpena Pound - a natural amphitheatre measuring eight kilometres by 17 kilometres.

We stayed in our caravan on a lovely large powered site in the campground which was close to all amenities and the bush walking trails.  It is a relatively easy walk to the Wangara lookout in order to look into the Pound from the viewing platforms - shuttles are provided by the resort which will reduce the walk by about 4 kilometres. The Wangara Lookout walk takes you past Hills Homestead with information on early settlers in this region - with public toilets behind the renovated homestead. Other walks include St Mary's Peak (almost 1200 metres high), Arkaroo Rock, Edeowie gorge and a relative short Drought Busters Hike of about 2 kilometres return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wilpena Pound Resort and look forward to heading back into the Flinders Ranges in the near future.
