Arkaroo Rock Road is about 41 kilometres north of Hawker along Flinders Ranges Way. I would recommend that you head along this road for about 3 kilometres to the car parking area before walking the trail to the rock paintings created by the Adnyamathanha people.
This is well worth the effort as the trail is clearly marked with seating provided along the way to sit and enjoy views of Chace Range. The walking track is fairly steep in places but very shaded and there is absolutely no need to rush. The Aboriginal Rock Art featuring ochre and charcoal images tells the story of the creation of Wilpena Pound. They suggest viewing these paintings in the morning light but it was mid afternoon when we arrived and they were still amazing.
The Arkaroo Rock car park is about 17 kilometres south of Wilpena Pound and not far from Rawnsley Park Station - so no matter where you are staying you can visit this beautiful site.
