The Ranger Station is located within Edel Land National Park (proposed) as you head towards Steep Point (the westerly most point of the Australian mainland). Visitors must register at the Ranger's Station on arrival and display an entry permit on the car dashboard. We had a yearly National Park Pass but still called in to let the Ranger know that we were in the park for the day.
Edel Land is only accessable by high clearance 4WD and you will need to reduce the tyre pressure to 20 psi before tackling the sandy and very corrugated tracks leading in the Natinal Park. These are only single width so you always need to be on the lookout for oncoming traffic as there are very few spots to pull off the road. The road to the Ranger Station takes you over Bellefin Prong which is a series of huge sand hills. Take care as this area is very hilly and some of the summits are quite blind.
After the Ranger Station there is Shelter Bay which is a designated camping area with a couple of Eco Toilets. The spots are close to to the water and protected form the wind. You will need a permit and these should be booked ahead by emailing the Ranger and sending in a permit application. The Ranger Station is in a beautiful spot overlooking the South Passage of Shark Bay Marine Park.
