Hearson’s Cove is a lovely spot located on the Burrup Peninsula between Karratha and Dampier in West Australia. Turn off Burrup Road onto Hearson Cove Road to access the beach. While exploring the tidal flats you may see turtles, mud crabs, octopus or migrating bird life.
This is a sheltered cove, popular for swimming and picnics spot - apparently one of only a few locations where you can view the spectacular Staircase to the Moon event (May through to October). The Staircase to the Moon, only occurs in WA and is a phenomenon that occurs when the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats at an extremely low tide, creating the optical illusion of a staircase reaching to the moon.
The area has a range of amenities such as barbeques, shade shelters and toilets. This is also a well known fishing location.
