The Sunset Tavern at Karumba Point is THE place to go for a great photo of the sun setting over the water of the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is a beautiful sight and you feel as through you are miles from anywhere. We visited the Tavern several times during our stay at Karumba Point and each time was quite unique. Many people come here each evening to take photos and we found there is never any shortage of interesting conversations with fellow travellers.
The Sunset Tavern serves counter meals and we met up with some friends one evening to enjoy dinner. The meals are large and the service was very good - you will find quite a few back-packers working behind the bar. They are open seven days a week for lunch and dinner - other facilities include a bottleshop and ATM.
The Karumba Point Markets are held in the carpark of the Sunset Tavern on Sunday morning - the Tavern serves coffee when you have finished shopping. I would highly recommend that you visit the Sunset Tavern to view these spectacular sunsets at least once during your visit to this beautiful part of Australia.
