Gladstone is a large town on the Coast of Queensland, about 130 kilometres south of Rockhampton (approximately 30 kilometres off the Bruce Highway). While towing the caravan through Queensland last year we decided to head into Gladstone for a quick look before heading south.
The Visitor Information Centre is over a bridge from CBD area of town along Bryan Jordan Drive and a little difficult to get to – follow the signs. We had no trouble finding a parking space with the van.
The VIC is located near boat terminals and there are places where you can store the car and or van while undertaking a trip to Heron Island. The staff at the VIC have all the information required to explore the area and sell a range of beach clothes as well as souvenirs.
Compleat Angler has locked parking areas near the VIC and I assume these are for people wanting to head out in their boats for a spot of fishing in the vast waterways around Gladstone. This is a large industrial port. There are a couple of caravan parks in Gladstone and nearby Boyne Island.
