We stopped at Victoria River Roadhouse during our trip from Katherine to Kununurra - located about 250 kilometres west of Katherine on the Victoria Highway. It has a very clean and tidy interior with fabulous timber benches. Outside is dusty with red dirt everywhere - not unusual I suppose as it is in the middle of the outback.
The Victoria River Roadhouse is close to the Victoria River Crossing and within the Gregory National Park. There is helicopter pad located beside the roadhouse for flights around the Park to view some of the amazing rocky outcrops in this beautiful part of the Northern Territory.
Tent sites, powered sites, drive-thru sites (that fit big motorhomes), as well as cabins are all available behind the Roadhouse which offers dining and bar facilities. The park has basic facilities - toilets and showers, laundry, telephone, kiosk/shop, gas refills, ice etc and, I am told, it is OK to bring your pet. This is a very convenient place to spend the night when travelling along the Victoria Highway.
