Taree is a large town located on the Manning River in New South Wales - about three hours drive north of Sydney. It is a large commercial centre, attracting shoppers from all around the local region.
The Manning River is a perfect spot for the power boat events that are held in Taree each year - there is also a Manning River Dragon Boat race in January. The Manning River splits at Taree and form two deltas - one reaching the ocean near Old Bar and the other near Harrington (further north). Between these two deltas are a number of islands - Mitchells Island, Oxley Island etc and these areas are great for fishing and boating. This is a large Dairy Farming area with lush green grass seen almost all year round.
There are a number of historical buildings around town and a large Aquatic and Leisure Centre to enjoy indoor water activities. Within a short driving distance from taree you will find some pretty coastal towns and great beaches - Wallibi Point, Crowdy Head, Old Bar, saltwater etc - these are very popular for surfing, sailboarding, kite-surfing and swimming.
The Manning Valley is a beautiful place to explore - visit the national parks in the area, Ellenborough Falls or Wingham Brush Nature Reserve - just to name a few attractions in the local area.
Taree has an airport with services to Sydney daily and is a major stop for the country-link train service from Sydney to Brisbane. The main highway now by-passes Taree which has stopped the heavy traffic going through the centre of town - of course you can detour and enjoy lunch at one of the great cafes in town or try the golf club.
